RACHAEL PRESCOTT

CONTENT CREATOR

Roald Dahl

I realized how important it was to be an enthusiast in life. If you're interested in something, no matter what it is, go at it full speed ahead. Embrace it with both arms, hug it, love it, and above all, become passionate about it. Lukewarm is no good. Hot is no good either. White hot and passionate is the only thing to be.

MY WORK

a little bit about me

As a child, I first realized that my imagination kept me sane. It seems almost antithetical, like a mind bursting with outlandish ideas and unrealistic possibilities is a mind teetering on the edge of insanity. But for me, exploring my imagination as a kid led me to the first serious truth of my life: that I was happiest when I was being creative. Like most kids, I viewed the world through wonky, rose-colored and imagination-hued glasses; where our parents saw perfectly fine white space, we saw an infuriatingly empty canvas and a thousand possibilities.

But as I grew up, I channeled that imagination into all the disciplines I love today. I started with writing, from persuasive essays addressed to my parents (mainly when I had my heart set on a specific field trip or vacation) to lengthy fiction stories about situations I had never experienced but could only dream about. I painted the walls in my room an average of once a year after diligently collecting sample colors from Home Depot, and one year dedicated an entire week to painting a mural on my bedroom wall. In high school, I organized and helped paint several murals in the school to beautify the space and bring other talented creatives together. When I got my first camera, I spent countless hours learning the function of every single button, and months trying to learn about composition and photography.

Eventually in college, after helping a new best friend with content creation for her jewelry business, I decided to declare a major in Media Studies, Journalism, and Digital Media. Additionally, I managed to film, produce, and edit a web documentary as my senior thesis in the midst of being sent home early due to COVID-19. The web doc, titled Digital Women: Women's Empowerment in the Digital Age, explored the lives of three different women of varying socio-economic backgrounds and how they utilized digital resources to gain leverage in their careers. In May 2020, after given the opportunity to explore photography, videography, writing, and graphic design, I graduated cum laude with a Bachelor's Degree from Saint Michael's College.

Now back in Philadelphia, I work as the Creative Director at Urban Jungle, a plant shop in South Philly named Best of Philadelphia 2019: Place for City Plants. With the same wonky, rose-colored glasses that I viewed life through when I was younger, I still frequently pursue passion projects. Explore my portfolio to see the different photo series and short videos I've been working on the past few years.
